A few weeks ago I saw a pretty little table on pinterest, covered with pennies! So this is the kind of stuff you can’t just buy in the next store… you have to EARN it 😀
This is how I did my table out of pieces f one cent 🙂
To create this chef-d’oeuvre I first needed a looooot of pennies! So I started collectim them everywhere, and even my family and friends helped my in my quest 🙂
I want to thank my sister Isi for her collection of pieces, my friend Miny, the anonymous donor who gave some pennies to my sister Julia, her collegues, and finally the Deutsche Bank 🙂 Because at the end I needed some more pieces and I exchanged 2 euros for a handful of pennies 🙂
First of all, you’ll need an afternoon of free time, some music or in my case the Audio Book of Dan Browns Inferno. Then you start gluing the pennies one by one on the table 🙂 Yes, one by one 🙂
To minimize the spaces between the pennies you just have to misalign the rows. I tried not to have all pennies samely arranged to have the most possible faces 🙂 There is always something to discover!
As the table has some round edges that pop out quite white, I painted it beige…
Finally you need a smooth and even surface that can be cleaned easily, so I bought come epoxy resin. This yellowish liquid becomes completely transparent and hard after around 12h.
I also surrouned the table with tape to prevent the resin to spill from the edge…
So first you glue the pennies on the table, the you surround it with tape, you mis your resin with the hardener and apply it from the center to the edge on the table. I used a spatula to get the resin it in every little interstice.
First the resin is quite milky, but it will become clear once dried, after about 12h. But be carefull, the resin is hard only after a couple of days 🙂
The result is already nice isn’t it?
I’m quite proud of my work 🙂 The finishing is still missing, I need to take off the tape and rework the sharp edges with some very fine sandpaper… I also want to paint the legs in a bronzy shape, to match the penny-surface.
I think this table is an original! And the day I don’t have enough money to pay my pizza, I will still have my reserve of 15.90 Euros 🙂
